I found one that caught my interest, titled 'Lure' by Deborah Kerbel "An old Victorain house, a fishing lure, and a ghost named John..." Absolutely nothing is going right for Max Green. His parents have just uprooted their family from Vancouver to the suburbs of Toronto, he has no friends, and everybody at his new high school is ignoring him. To make matters worse, he's in love with an older girl who's completely out of his league. When Max discovers a local library rumoured to be haunted by ghosts, he's immediately drawn to it. With the help of some cryptic messages, he begins to piece together the identity of the teenage ghost and the mysterious chain of events that have connected its spirit to the building for overy a century. But just who was John, anyway? Why has he chosen to contact Max? And what does an old fishing lure have to do with solving the mystery? - Synopsis taken from the back cover (publisher, Dundurn Press).

Grade 5's will be on Wednesday and Grade 6's will be on Thursday in the library at lunch recess Thank you for your interest in the MYRCA (Manitoba Young Readers Choice Awards) nominated book 'Girl of the Southern Sea' written by Canadian author Michelle Kadarusman. We will meet once a week as a group to read the book together, have group discussions and do some related activities. There is a MYRCA contest that will give a lucky book club the opportunity to Skype with the author and talk to her about her story.
If you cannot make a meeting due to illness and/or absence from school that is OK - we will get you caught up the next week you are back. If you choose to miss the meeting for other extra curricular activities, it will not make sense for you to continue to be part of book club, as you will miss too much of the story. Mrs. Potosky, Miss Kostiniuk and I are all really looking forward to sharing this book with you. This will count towards one of the reads to be able to vote for your favourite author; so then you will only need to read 2 more of the nominated books in the Sundog category. Any questions, please let me know! - Mrs. Stewart Written by acclaimed author Eric Walters
This touching and fast paced story is about a group of grade 8 students who are planning their middle school farewell dance, when they receive the news that school is cancelled until further notice. This true to life fictional story, is an account of the last 6 months of our lives. It shows how we can turn despair into hope and find our way into the 'new normal'. I have attached a 'You Tube' video of Eric Walter reading the first chapter of his new book. It will be catalogued and ready for you to borrow by the end of this week. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPI9BCxrs0A Every Child MattersEvery year 'Orange Shirt Day' is remembered and acknowledged on September 30th. The time of year that children were taken away from their families to attend Residential Schools across Canada. However, I challenge everyone to continue the conversation and to explore more about our history and how we can move forward with 'Truth and Reconciliation', not just on September 30th but all year long.
